Dave received Presidential appointments with unanimous Senate confirmation from Reagan, Bush (41) and Clinton, including serving as Comptroller General of the United States and CEO of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) for almost 10 years. He led a widely praised transformation of the GAO and spearheaded related efforts for the accountability community both domestically and internationally. Prior to GAO, he served as a Partner and for, Global Managing Director with Arthur Andersen LLP. His prior government experience included serving as one of two Public Trustees for Social Security and Medicare, and CEO of two of the three federal agencies that administer the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
Dave served as the first Chairman of the United Nations Independent Audit Advisory Committee for four years. He also served on the Governing Board and as chairman of the global strategic planning task force for the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
Dave currently serves on governing Board of Directors for CRFB and GTI. He previously served on the national governing boards for AARP and CSPC, and the local governing boards for Rotary International and the Sons of the American Revolution. He is a national Co-Founder of No Labels and serves on a number of national and international Advisory Boards.
Dave is an inductee into the International Accounting Hall of Fame and the Institute of Internal Auditors International Hall of Distinguished Practitioners. He has been awarded the CPA profession’s highest medal by the AICPA and has received numerous international and domestic awards for his leadership and accomplishments, including from two heads of state and two cabinet secretaries.
Dave is a frequent speaker, author and media commentator. He has testified before Congress over 300 times on a broad range of topics, and has published three books, including a National Bestseller titled “Comeback America: Turning the Country Around and Restoring Fiscal Responsibility”.
Dave is married to the former Mary Etheredge, is a father of two grown children, and a grandfather to three. Dave and Mary live in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, CT.
